Great American Ball Park

The Great American Ball Park is a baseball stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is home to the Cincinnati Reds of Major League Baseball. It opened on March 31, 2003. Prior to that, the team played in the historic Cinergy Field. The current Great American Ball Park was constructed to replace the old Cinergy Field.

The ballpark was designed by architects HOK Sport and GBBN and cost US$290 million to build. It sits on a parcel of land between the Riverfront Stadium and the Heritage Bank Center. The former Cinergy Field was partially demolished before the stadium’s construction. The ballpark opened in March 2003, replacing the former Cinergy Field, which was torn down on December 29, 2002.

A major addition to this ballpark was a new scoreboard. The Cincinnati Reds signed a ten-year contract with Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota, to install HD video displays. They also contracted with Sony to supply HD video cameras and production equipment. The displays are operated in a newly renovated control room and are managed by a team of 25 people.

The Great American Ballpark has 42,271 red seats. The stadium has three levels: a lower grandstand, a second deck, and a press box. The upper deck is divided into two sections. The gap between the two levels allows people downtown Cincinnati to see the ballpark from their seats, which is not common in baseball stadiums.
